Barclay is all about safety in the work place. That is why we offer one of the most comprehensive course selections for operator training and related industrial training in the New Jersey - New York area. Barclay offers Safety Training classes to include OSHA compliance, forklift training, aerial equipment training, fall protection and food safety. In fact, we have proudly trained thousands of warehouse, plant and management personnel. Today's safety tip is the first in a series of safety tips we will present over the next few weeks. The safety tips are from Yale's respected "Forklift Safety Tips" poster that has set the industry standard for years.
Much like a car or truck, forklifts improve efficiency and allow us to move more products quicker. They also require the same easy steps to keep the operator safe. Always remember to fasten your seat belt. A lot of accidents can be avoided with a simple “click!” Also be mindful of your speed and surroundings. Observe the rules of your work site and operate the forklift appropriately.
Its that time of year again….
Put away your snow boots and bust out your baseball caps, its SPRING time in New Jersey, and nothing says spring like warm weather and baseball!
Barclay is excited to announce our partnership with the Lakewood Blueclaws and is even more excited to give our valued customers free tickets! For the next 10 weeks, we will be drawing one name to win four tickets to a Blueclaws game this summer!
So take off that winter coat, grab your shades and enter for a chance to win free ultimate family fun!
Even if you are traveling at low speed, a piece of debris in your path can cause the load to tip over or the operator to lose control; this can be easily avoided by keeping all pathways clean, and of course paying close attention during forklift operation. Also be sure to properly stack loads on pallets and use prevention measures such as ropes or binders if necessary to ensure load security. It is better to make two safe trips than having an accident with one insecure load.
The point of a forklift is to safely move products up or down or across a warehouse facility. Improper loading techniques cannot only damage product but can seriously injure the operator or someone else. Do not use the fork tip as a lever to raise a heavy load or to push a load, and do not use the tilt cylinder to pull a load. This can result in costly damages to the forklift. Use pallets that can stand the weight of the load. Do not use damaged, deformed or decayed pallets and skids.
Barclay would like to remind our customers of our FREE pick-up of all scrap equipment for recycling. We will pick up and dispose of your old industrial forklift batteries and equipment absolutely FREE!

May was declared National Military Appreciation Month by Congress in 1999 to designate a time to say thank you to the dedicated men and women who have served and are currently serving our country.
Although Memorial Day is the only Federal Holiday this month, there are a number of other days that celebrate our armed forces and their families for their sacrifice:
5/9-Military Spouses Day
5/10-Public Services Recognition Week
5/17-Armed Forces Day
Barclay would like to honor and say Thank you to all of our Veteran employees for their service. To view some of our Vets, click here. To learn more about Barclay’s “Buy a Jack-Help a Soldier” program, click here.

Barclay employees are stepping up to a healthy lifestyle by incorporating physical activity into their daily routine. In fact the entire company is taking the 10,000 Step Challenge for National Walk at Lunch Day , Wednesday, April 30th. Barclay employees are dividing into teams and will wear their pedometers to walk it up during the lunch hour. An official representative from 10,000 Steps.org will on hand to monitor the event. The company will provide healthy snacks and treats to the employees. It is important to remember that walking is great physical exercise and no gym fees are required. Daily activity helps with overall health, weight control and aging by reducing many risk factors for cardiac issues, high blood pressure, stress, cancer and diabetes. Barclay employees are stepping up to stomp out these risk factors and enjoy the benefits of increased energy, improved concentration and productivity.
Barclay now has six teams from Red Hot Chili Steppers to Holy Walkamolies.
Here is the link to 10,000 Steps if your company wants to walk at lunch too!
Obstructed vision is one of the leading causes for forklift accidents. Ask for someone to help you when working in a narrow space. Use predetermined signals to ensure solid communication and safety. Always look right and left before proceeding. If you can’t see, sound your horn to let others know you are coming so they can be out of the way.
Even if you are only going a few feet, it is important to keep forks low. Never travel with forks in an elevated position or lifted higher than a foot off the floor. It also never hurts to have a lookout helper if vision is not 100% clear, especially when reversing!
Save on transportation costs. Yale MPB045VG units are able to move pallets in and out of tight areas like inside a trailer. Truck packaging affects maneuverability of equipment. Some of these factors that affect include chassis head length, chassis width, bumper profile, fork tip profile, tiller handle position. This means maneuverability is critical when pin-wheeling and loading trailers. The Yale MPB045VG offers the shortest head length in class. Providing it with first-rate maneuverability both in t loading and unloading environments.
The release of OSHA’s Top 10 Safety Violations of 2013 comes as a reminder that your employees are your most valuable assets in the material handling industry.
When it comes to the safety of your employees, trust Barclay with the task at hand. We offer a variety of customized material handling safety training courses and consultations to better understand the specific safety needs of our customers.
With the goal of reducing the hazards associated with forklifts, the Industrial Truck Association (ITA) is in Washington, D.C. today sponsoring the inaugural National Forklift Safety Day.
This event marks the convergence of manufacturers, customers, policymakers and the Administration to provide the unique opportunity for all parties to become educated and informed on industry practices meant to ensure the safest work environments possible.
